Some of you may or may not have heard about the plans to tear down the Indigenous Museum in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to create parking for the World Cup 2014. Not only is it a 147 year old building, but it is also the home of many indigenous people of Brazil. They moved into the abandoned building to become a living history, to teach about their cultures. On March 22, the occupants of the building were forcibly removed by Brazilian police. If this building comes down, they are losing their home and the hopes of educating others about their unique culture.
This video is a short documentary of the indigenous peoples’ thoughts and reactions to the plans for their home.
If anyone has updates or more information about this, please add it on or let me know. I’m anxious to see how this ends up.
